     About Lee

                                                                        Brett's Information

Brett Lee, handsome hunk, talented musician, gifted singer, God’s gift to women, Australian cricketer and arguably the fastest bowler in the world, was in India for the cricket series, although he did not play. He spent time promoting Foster’s (Australian!) beer at pubs and bars across the country, playing the guitar and entertaining at nightspots, and generally being a darling!

Brett on his diet, food and workout:

You talk of a love for Indian food...

Yeah, especially Butter Chicken! But in moderation because there’s so much butter, fat. The day I train hard, I work my butt off, put in effort and the match goes well... then I reward myself. A couple of quarts of beer, and Butter Chicken.

Are you a foodie?

I enjoy food but I’m not a good cook. I like getting into the kitchen among the females and doing, let’s say, a pasta, some Spaghetti Bolognese, a couple of stir-fry dishes, Apricot Chicken. I’d have a platter of fresh fruit afterwards. I’m not into desserts. No cakes with cream.

Is Australian food great?

It’s really great. The produce is fresh, there’s lots of seafood, garden-fresh salads, awesome fruit.

What’s your diet like?

I’m against fast foods. I strictly avoid places like McDonald’s. I believe the body is your temple and you’ve got to look after it. I’m old fashioned in my eating habits. Lots of vegetables, very little sugar, no artificial stuff, plenty of juices.

And your workouts?

I train every day. Not so much weights as using my body weight against myself, you know, chin-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, working against gravity. My workouts could last three hours.

What’s your favourite drink?

Beer, soda water. It’s important to drink between two to five litres of water a day. Because I train so much and play so much, I need to chase hydration. It shows on the skin, otherwise. I look at going into a match feeling hydrated. And I prefer bubbly water to still, it’s easier to drink.

As a sportsman, are you against smoking?

I absolutely hate people who smoke. Nothing puts me off more than the smell of cigarette smoke. I’ve never tried smoking and I never will, not even a puff! Just the smell makes me sick.

If you were to put together a dream table of guests for dinner, who would you invite?

Don Bradman, he was the greatest cricketer that ever lived, I’d love to chat him up; Elvis Presley, because he’s what music is all about, a white man singing black soul music; Robbie Williams, because I admire his music, I’d love to jam with him; Liv Tyler, she’s beautiful, as simple as that; Steve Waugh, he’s mentally the toughest cricketer I ever came across, he makes winning a habit but is yet so humble, I’d love to share stories with him; and, Britney Spears, she’s pretty, and it would be great to have her providing harmony if I jam up with Elvis and Robbie after dinner

 Off The Field:

Lee is part of the rock band Six & Out. The band is made up of his brother Shane and former New South Wales cricketers Brad McNamara, Gavin Robertson and Richard Chee Quee. Lee plays the bass guitar and acoustic guitar for the band. He also plays the piano and owns a black Bosendorfer grand piano.

He is also a blossoming entrepeneur with his own coffee shop called 'Fusions Café & Book Shop'  and his own restaurant which specialises in Indian cuisine, inspired by Lee's love for Indian food.

Lee has a keen interest in fashion and launched his own fashion label 'BL', in 2001. He designs all of the clothing on the label. He also does the modeling for the catalogs.

A few other hobbies of Lee's are freshwater fishing and surfing which he tries to fit in whenever he has time off.

He also had a cameo appearance in a short film called "dream date", written by respected journalist Shane Cubis and directed by Lee's childhood friend Adam Rainford.

Lee is also decidedly popular with female fans and is considered the 'pin-up boy' of Cricket. In 2001, Lee was voted runner-up in Cleo Magazine's annual Bachelor of the Year contest.

Though Australian speedster Brett Lee expressed his ambition to act in Bollywood movies, Bollywood filmmakers have unanimously given a thanda response to his overtures. Out of the on-going cricket World Cup due to an ankle injury, Lee has been using this unplanned break to build himself a platform for his post-retirement career in Bollywood and has also hired a Hindi tutor for overcoming his language barrier.

Filmmaker Anant Narayan Mahadevan (Aksar) tells us, "I remember seeing Brett Lee flirt with Preity Zinta at an IFFA function a couple of years ago. I think he harboured dreams of being part of what they call the Indian film industry then itself.

Message from Brett Lee:

Brett Lee grew up in Wollongong NSW and loved playing cricket from an early age. He is one of Australia’s fastest bowlers and is a favourite of the Australian cricket team with fans across Australia. Apart from being a member of the Australian cricket team Brett also has his own fashion label and has performed and released a song that reached number 1 on the Indian music charts in its first week.

Brett, who has won many awards for his skills in cricket, was delighted to be announced in January 2007 as a Healthy Active Ambassador because he believes in a healthy lifestyle for all Australians.

To be a fast bowler at cricket’s elite level, I reckon one of the things you’ve got to have is passion. Passion to me is not doing things just for the sake of it, but doing things because you really believe in them – doing them to the very best of your ability – with the ultimate aim of making a difference

I guess it’s pretty well known that I’m passionate about my cricket - getting that winning edge over batsmen. And it’s the same in life. I’m passionate about my health and my family, and I’m passionate about Australia and about Australia’s kids.

It worries me that Australia is now fourth fattest country in the world and that up to a quarter of Australian kids are obese or overweight. Sport defines Australia as a nation, but childhood obesity is now threatening all that. It’s a looming crisis and we need to do something about it urgently.

When I was a kid, we were in the backyard playing all the time rather than watching TV. I’m not saying don’t play computer games, or don’t watch TV. But I am saying don’t do it all the time. Get outside and play with your brothers and sisters, your friends, or the dog.

I know how much fitness plays a role in elite sport – you can’t compete at your best if you’re not following a healthy lifestyle. But it’s not that different for everyone at an everyday level. A healthier lifestyle means we all perform better.

So, let’s set ourselves this challenge – start exercising a little more, play sport, eat better, cut down on the junk food. We can all do something, so kids, get mum and dad involved and go for a walk or bowl a few overs in the backyard. And parents, set the example for your children. It starts at home.
